Finished Friday // Fredericsburg CGI Interior Visualisation

How do you explain how an interior space will look following a fantastic refurbishment?

With amazing images, right?

We were commissioned to create 3 interior visualisations to preview the gym, kitchen and lounge areas of this re-development.

A detail spec, drawings and brief was supplied, and we did the rest to produce these images.

Dudden Hill Lane // Architectural CGI Visualisation

Our client has plans to develop a North London builders yard into a fantastic residential and office space development.

In order to explain their designs, they commissioned 2 CGI illustrations.

The first visualisation shows the positive impact the proposed design will have on the existing street and surroundings.

The second image shows the extent of the development.

AR is dead, long live AR!

Augmented Reality is Dead?!

OK let me explain. AR definitely isn't dead, but a shift is occurring, and this is my prediction -

"AR over the next 12 months, augmented reality will become more commonplace, useful and integrated into our everyday lives than ever before."

Augmented Reality (AR) is a medium / platform allow people to superimpose digital content into the real world. You might be familiar with the concept. Snapchat Lenses are a fun way to add bunny ears, face swap or create interesting selfies.

Or maybe you've delved a little deeper and seen how you can view a piece of virtual furniture into your room. Check out the Ikea Place app for a great example of this.

Essentially anything that let's you see digital content overlaid or integrated into the real world can be defined as augmented reality.

The Shift in AR

AR has been around to years, we tested and played with this back in 2012, and then the hype died down. At that time it felt like a gimmick, and I don't do gimmicks!

In recent years, AR started to emerge once again, mainly down to the advances in tech (smart phones, Android ARCore, Apple AR Kit), which lead to fun apps, such as SnapChat.

Most of the apps have been for entertainment, and really served little other purpose.

But that will change. And it could be driven by Facebook of all people. Facebook launched Spark AR Studio, a way for developers to create augmented reality apps to feature in Facebook and Instagram.

Spark AR Studio Augmented Reality Facebook Instagram

Currently, most of the AR content on Spark AR Studio is "entertainment" based. People are experimenting, testing and having fun.

But what will be interesting is when we see Facebook start to monetise its platform and users. I predict that Facebook will create a centralised AR platform, not only for "funky selfies", but also for business, brands and products.

I mentioned earlier that Ikea have the Place app, where you can preview furniture within a real world. Well others are at it too, such as Wayfair and Amazon

And it's my prediction that Facebook will create something like Wayfair and Amazon , but 1000x greater!

Wayfair and Ikea are all very much self centred, they serve themselves, you can't "shop around". And I can't blame them, why should they.

Amazon and Facebook are potentially very different. These both aren't self centred, they can offer the users anything. So imagine an AR marketplace where you can browse 1000s of items, no matter who produces it.

And don't think AR is just for furniture either. Fashion, art, accessories, paint, hair styles and almost anything else could take advantage of AR.

And then there's the opportunity for augmented reality to do a full circle, and use AR for entertainment, promotion, brand awareness and just good old fun.

Facebook / Instagram is going to be the place to be. If they get it right, they'll be to go-to app for AR, and everyone will want to be on it. Think of it like a business not wanting to be on Google, it just wouldn't happen!

"I believe augmented reality is a huge opportunity for forward thinking retailers to promote their products and brands. The attention will be undervalued to begin with, but trust me, that won't last too long."

So what does this have to do with Punch Digital? Well moving forward, we will be developing augmented reality content on the Spark AR platform. It'll be business like ourselves that will give businesses, brands and products a way to get their content easily onto these platforms, so we're keen to show how this is possible!

Keep your eyes peeled for augmented reality updates!

And if you have an idea, concept or would simply like to know more about augmented reality, then get in touch!

Thanks,
Dean

The Klio is available in different styles, so that needed to be illustrated.

The artwork which features on the Klio can also be animated, so again, we took care of that too.

The digital room set is entirely 3D, built to best illustrate the product, save time and remove logistical head aches!

For further details, or to get in touch head to the contact page.

Marketing CGIs and animation help sell luxury houses off plan!

Off plan marketing with the magic of architectural visualisations and animations!

Viver Green Housing Development, a project which we recently completed, has been a great success in helping our client to successfully sell many of their properties, even before the diggers arrived on site!

It's great to hear from our clients when the work we produce has been a real success. To be able to sell properties before work begins is incredible, and it shows what a great architectural design, marketing and of course great CGIs can do!

We produced 15 architectural visualisations and one CGI animation for Egg Homes, which were used in web and printed marketing. To see the all the images please check out the Viver Green Housing Development page.

There will be a video blog coming soon, showing you behind the scenes of how we created the images and animations. Until then, if you have any questions, would like to know more, or even have a development that needs to be visualised, then please get in touch!

3D Milkhouse – Creating a 3D model for toy creation!

Milkhouse 3D Model

Earlier this month we were approached by Made By Cooper to turn one of their clients designs into a 3D model, which will eventually be used in the manufacturing of the "Milkhouse" toy.

As I've said before, sometimes the most unusual projects are the most interesting, and this one certainly was unusual and very interesting! Having been a fan of The Simpsons since I was a kid, I jumped at the chance to create the 3D model. Millhouse is an usual character at the best of times, so envisaging him in a milk carton form is certainly different!product cgiMilkhouse CGI.

As with any project there we're tweaks and revisions, but the guys at Made By Cooper supplied excellent sketches and drawings which made our job easier and we were then able to hand over the 3D files quicker too. For this job we also uploaded the development 3D models to an on-line viewer so every possible angle could be seen, checked and commented on of needed.

Milkhouse 3D model wireframe.

There were two parts to this project, firstly to create a 3D model which will be used in manufacturing Milkhouse, and secondly to use the 3D model in a visualisation to show people exactly how the toy will look. The client supplied reference images for the material finishes, which we were able to accurately re-create in CGI.

The client also has plans for Milkhouse to be produced in chocolate, milk and strawberry variations. Illustrating the finishes quickly was also a great use of CGI.

product_milkhouse_choc_1600

Finally the Milkhouse 3D model was rendered 36 times, at 10 degree intervals, so that Milkhouse could be viewed in a 360 degree way. Eventually all the angles will be loaded into an interactive viewer. Again, this is another advantage of using CGI, we could quickly render the 36 images, and supply them ready to use.

To read more about the artist, Tattoo Dave, and to see the original pin badge, for which the Milkhouse toy is inspired by, head over to The Toy Chronicle article.

And of course if you require any 3D modelling, or pre-production CGIs get in touch!
