Inspiration // Redbrick Mill

I find inspiration comes from anywhere, but sometimes taking a literal step into an inspiring space is a fantastic way to broaden your mind.

So last weekend I paid a visit to the fantastic Redbrick Mill.

Redbrick Mill is a high-end department store for the likes of Heals, Natuzzi and Made.com, and wow, what a store!

Places like these are inspiring for so many reasons. The quality, attention to detail and of course design are just a few things to marvel at. But it's also a brilliant place to take in much more than just beautiful furniture and interior design.

Seeing real items up-close and in detail is a great way to push our CGI work forward. It's those details which can turn a good piece of work into something great. It certainly inspires us to continue to push and develop!

When working on interior projects, we're always looking for inspiration and references to give our work a creative edge. Nothing stands still in the interior design world, so why should we?

A visit like this is also fantastic to get ideas on smaller things too, such as table settings, colour trend and furnishings. And let's not forget out the fantastic mill building itself! I'm a huge fan of restored buildings, and this old mill is certainly beautiful and inspiring too!

So what's your favorite place for "read made" inspiration? Drop a comment or email and let us know!

Digital Room Sets // Off-The-Shelf just won’t do!

I often get asked

"Do you have any room sets we could use?"

And the simple and honest answer is

"No"

There is ONE reason why. It's too much of a compromise, with little advantage.

Interior CGI Bedroom Luna Visualisation

Let me explain. Our digital room sets are built to visualise a product. A room set to visualise kitchen tiles will be built, lit, propped and designed to purposely visualise tiles.

To now use that set to visualise a dining table would be possible, but not ideal. We'd spend too much time re-jigging and re-arranging an old set. It's actually much better to start with a blank canvas, and can be more efficient too.

CGI Architectural Visualisation Visualisations Architecture Housing Development Animation Interior Internal KBB Bathroom

That's not to say that we can't re-use parts of the past digital room sets, such as windows, chairs or light fixtures. However the architecture of the room is best to be built from scratch.

Re-using and re-purposing digital assets can be used along side new and custom fixtures too. That way you have something unique, bespoke and tailored to you and your product.

So, if you're looking to use interior digital room sets to visualise a product, perhaps think about building one that suits your needs perfectly. Don't be fooled that using an off-the-shelf set will save you time and money, it likely wont.

Don't compromise!

Finished Friday // Fredericsburg CGI Interior Visualisation

How do you explain how an interior space will look following a fantastic refurbishment?

With amazing images, right?

We were commissioned to create 3 interior visualisations to preview the gym, kitchen and lounge areas of this re-development.

A detail spec, drawings and brief was supplied, and we did the rest to produce these images.

Finished Friday // Electric Radiators CGI Visualisation

To help the client illustrate how their radiators would look in an interior setting 3 main visuals were produced.

These images consisted of different room configurations where the radiators could be placed, helping consumers visualise the products in their home. All images helped both the client achieve its goes, and gives the consumer a batter understanding of the product.

We are now 50% Female!

We are now 50% Female!

Having a variety of staff from different backgrounds is what brings the team to life, while also providing a wider knowledge for future projects.
This month Jenny joined our team here at Punch Digital. Check out Jenny's background below.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BcGJC8LhVVd/

Her Job:

Jenny is here as a part time marketer to shake up all aspects of Punch Digital's marketing, while making a mean cup of tea. She will not only be organising our social media, but engaging with creative aspects and collaborating with the team.

We've already started some exciting changes and brainstormed some fantastic ideas.

#WatchThisSpace!

If you fancy collaborating with us Jenny is the person to talk to, her email is Jenny@punch.digital

Experience:

She juggles both work (here at Punch Digital), education (at University of Huddersfield doing her Masters in Marketing) and play.

In addition, she accredited by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) as well as being a fully qualified Interior Designer. She has previously worked in London. Designing retail stores for Harvey Nichols and Selfridges as well as contributing to the new Costa Coffee role out stores.

Not only does she come from a design background, she previously trained as a accountant. Giving her background a very unique direction.

Plus she has 3 years experience for Wetherspoons, so she knows how to pull a good pint!

Personal Life:

Born and bred Yorkshire girl she likes to go on long walks through the countryside. Just kidding! The only Yorkshire thing about Jenny is her accent and her unconditional love for Yorkshire Tea.

Jenny loves design and watching clients ideas come to life through CGI. Perfect for Punch Digital.

In her spare time she dabbles on illustrator creating line drawings of people. However, all the spare time is not sat in front of a computer. She is an avid music lover, travelling far and wide to see her favourite artists (only in the sunshine).

Where's Harry?

Those eagle-eyed among you might have noticed that 100% divided by 3 doesn't equal 50%. Sadly Harry left just before Easter, but fear not, a new, bright eyed Junior Artist will be with us soon!

Our First Project to Mix CGI VR and Live 360 Footage

We love a challenge, so when our friends at Superla came to us and said they want to combine CGI VR with live 360 footage for a distracted driving campaign 360 video we said "hell yes!"

The concept behind the video is simple - distracted driving kills. But how we showed this concept wasn't as easy, and we had to overcome some technical and creative hurdles.

Don't let a single moment of distraction change your life. #ParkYourPhone and follow #Cartesy when you head out next time. Take the pledge here: http://bit.ly/2xpS7vE

For our part, we produced the car interior, which is entirely CGI! The character is also CGI too. Creating photo-realistic content is something we do on a daily basis, but the challenges of the project pushed our technical knowledge to the limit, and beyond. To seamlessly blend the live footage, with the CGI car interior, we had to match the lighting, but more importantly, the reflections. Then throw in some motion capture, super high resolution footage, and numerous other challenges!

Distracted Driving 360 Car Interior Animation Video

Superla did a cracking job with the live 360 footage, post production and leading and directing the animation. For the character animation, we used the Rokoko motion capture suit, then refined the animation before rendering the animation. I personally love the text message alerts, which divert your eye away from the road, which is of course the video's aim is to distract you as you drive along.

We believe 360 video has a big future, especially when telling an engaging story. By viewing the 360 videos on a VR headset, the immersive experience is unlike any traditional media. I believe in 2018 we will see a growth of VR and 360 content, and it's certainly something we're excited to be a part of!
